Hitler called the Germans, "The German People" and "My People" which you can see plainly if you get honest copies of his speeches. Most notably his speech to the People in Berlin. He did not in fact call them the "superior race" and the idea of superiority came later. It was more a fact of Self Governance, that the German people should not be ruled by a political elite, not from Germany. That they should be self-governed and independent, but also self-reliant. This whole idea of "master race" is part Propaganda and part pseudoscience. Like all other scientific theories, it had to start somewhere. And they were in the midst of the power-grab of globalism. The idea that plagues us all today that there is no difference between people. That we are all in fact exactly the same at the core. But then, just as today, people realize that there are differences between people. Some good some bad, and that's ok. It's what makes us different that makes us unique. And like many things of their time, there was a quest for scientific reasoning behind what set them apart, how they could show that they were a unique people, and should be respected as such. If you look at the ongoing pandemic crisis. (The current year 2020) Even the most resounding globalist governments are reverting back to nationalistic mindsets. Because in the most minor of crisis globalism goes out the window and one must look out for their nation, If the nation fails, one must look out for his state or region, and when that fails we fall back on the community or tribe, and when all fails we fall back on family. WHY? Because it is natural. And maybe they used bad science to try and figure it out. But at least they looked at it critically at first. But through political attack and condemnation, they held fast to their research which once defeated was used to vilify them for taking a critical look at something viewed as off-limits even in today's society. Its the Dogma of Globalism.

Was Hitler an effective leader for the Germans?

No, Hitler made Germany go into war where millions of Germans lost their lives, their homes and everything they had. After Hitler's death Germany was destroyed and in shambles, so he definitely was not an effective leader for the Germans.
