Jefferson Davishe was the President of the confederate states of America. He was an American politician who served as president of the confederate state of America for its entire history from 1861 to 1865 during the American civil war. During his presidency, Davis was never able to find a strategy that would defeat the larger, more industrially developed the union.

The first thing he did was try to organize war plans, which ultimately failed because the North had a larger, more organized army. He also tried to gain recognition from Europe, which thanks to Lincoln failed.

One would think by his political positions that Davis was well-qualified for the job, and he actually might have been a more effective President had the Confederate government structure been different. Because the Confederacy's government recognized state sovereignty (much like the old Articles of Confederation), the central government lacked authority. Therefore, Davis was largely ineffective because his hands were tied.
