Martin Luther King, Jr. brought to the attention of allAmericans that the struggle for African-Americans to gain equality in American society had taken too long and was sorely inadequate. Dr. King focused the attention of his "fellow Americans" on what needed to be done and who needed to participate, which was everyone. Too many American citizens of that era (myself included) were ignorant or apathetic to the reality of being black in America. Dr. King had a gift for public speaking to deliver this message in no uncertain terms.
