Scrooge did not like Christmas because he saw it as a wasteful and overcommercialized holiday. Scrooge didn't like Christmas. this was because he had a terrible childhood and a bad experience when he was a young man. for example, his father left him on Christmas Day in boarding school. luckily his sister came to tell him that father had changed. scrooge didn't believe her. a few years after scrooges sister died. that was hi only true friend. the only friends he had were the characters from books. all the kids didn't like scrooge. another example is when bell his fiance broke up with him because she thinks he prefers money over a dowerless girl.
"It's a humbug!"
The word does NOT mean, "a silly trifle," but instead means, "deceptive talk or behavior." In other words, Scrooge is NOT saying that the kindness that people show to others at this time is stupid, but that it is all fake. Scrooge can't imagine anyone being kind and generous to another person for any reason other than to deceive that other person.
In his early days as seen in Stave 2 the young Scrooge was a boarder at a private school. Here he was left by his father. At holiday time other students would be at home with a loving family but not Scrooge. This was especially difficult at Christmas when he was the only boy in the school over the Christmas holiday.
He says Humbug, a word which means, "deceitful talk or behavior." His use of this word does NOT mean Scrooge thinks of Christmas when people act foolishly, but a time they act deceitfully.
He also states that Christmas is a time of finding yourself "a year older and not a hour richer," as well as "the time of paying bills when you don't have money."

Interestingly, the word does not mean "silly foolishness," but "deceit."
