We call it the War of Independence. We don't think about it a lot to be honest - it's taught in schools very factually. "No taxation without representation". Boston tea party. That's about it. It was a long time ago - wonder what the world would be like if it hadn't happened. Remember the colonies belonged only to the king, not to the British people. So they were his loss, not ours.

The American colonists were divided three ways. The Patriots thought Britain had wronged them and favored breaking away from British rule. The Tories remained loyal to the British Crown and considered themselves British subjects despite any grievances they may have had. And the rest did not care one way or the other.
