Amundsen also planned his journey months before he actually started. He laid three depots before the journey started, to reduce the amount of supplies he and his team would have to carry. He used dogs to pull the sleds, they skied and took a shorter route than did the Englishman, Captain Scott. Amundsen also made sure he took the most direct route no matter what they had to face.
