We know virtually nothing about Anne as she is not mentioned in scripture. What we know is through tradition that has been handed down for 2000 years. She was Jewish and her husband was named Joachim. They became parents of a daughter, the Blessed Virgin Mary, who became the mother of Our Lord. That made her the grandmother of Jesus. It is thought that they lived in Nazareth.

Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. No historical details of her life are known. She was first mentioned by name in the apocryphal gospel of James (2nd century); Epiphanius and Gregory of Nyssa praised her. A church was built in her honour at Constantinople by Justinian; relics were taken from it to Jerusalem and Rome, where there are pictures of her at S. Maria Antiqua (8th century). In the 10th century her feast, called the 'conception of St. Anne', was kept at Naples and, soon afterwards, in England and Ireland.

According to early Christian tradition, Saints Anne and Joachim were the parents of Mary, mother of Jesus. However, there is no biblical evidence they were real, historical people and it is doubtful they ever lived. If Anne was a real person, we know nothing about her life.
