He meant that Islam is in conflict with any nation having a religious or political system which is not Islamic with which it shares borders.
However, this is not true. Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance. If in some countries with minority Muslims are demonstrating discrimination against Muslims you never find this in Muslim majority countries for one reason. Muslims believe in other God religions (Christianity and Judaism) and their holy books as God holy books and they believe in their prophets. However, non Muslims don't believe in Islam as a religion, Muhammad as a God prophet, and Quran as God holy books. Muslims call Jews and Christians as people of the book (holders of holy God books) in Quran holy book while they call Muslims non believers in their holy books. The political conflict between Israel and neighboring countries is not due to religion but due the oppression exercised by Israel on the Palestinians (the original people of the whole land of Israel who were living in peace with Christians and Jews before the announcement of Israel State in 1948). The conflict between Pakistan and India is due to the separation of subcontinent; when was under the British occupation; into an Islamic country Pakistan and a Hindus country India. Although Kashmir is of majority Muslims it was put under control of India just to assure the existence of conflicts between both countries after having independence. remember the massacres exercised against Muslims in Bosnia and Burma and the Philippines to recognize that it was not due to Muslims but due to other non Muslims.
ISIS is an Extremist Islamic Caliphate which fights for the 'purity' of Islam. Anyone who doesn't believe in Islamic traditions/beliefs in the way they perceive it are seen as enemies. Many people devoted to Islam are disgusted by what IS are trying to achieve as what they preach is nothing but hate.
I think it is important because it is one of the five pillars of Islam and is therefore very key to their beliefs and it shows dedication to Allah.
They are the two main branches of Islam. The split between Sunni and shiite Islam occurred very early in Islam's history, in the 7th century AD. It had very little to do with any differences in Muslim belief (although there are a few, mostly minor differences), but everything with the question whether the rightful successor to the prophet Muhammed was his father-in-law Abu Bakr or his son-in-law Ali. Sunni Muslims think is was Abu Bakr, Shia Muslims are followers of Ali ('shia' even means "followers"). In the past, Sunni and Shiite Muslims mostly managed to co-exist peacefully and even intermarried. Today the differences between these two Muslim branches have become intermingled with the struggle for political supremacy in the Middle East between Sunni Saudi Arabia and Shiite Iran.
Submission to God; the Creator; the one and only one God with no partner, no son, no associate is emphasized in Islam culture. _______________________________________________________________ woman's purity
Ironically for a now Muslim-only city, Jews were prominent among its founders and oldest inhabitants and they remained a powerful presence in the city until well after the foundation of Islam (they by the way also instituted the habit of walking around the temple and the Ka'aba stone in Mecca as a form of veneration). Madina was one of the most important cities of the pre-Muslim Yemenite Kingdom.
Islam
No religion "inspired" the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire had Sunni Islam as its State Religion, but it was not a view or tenet of Islam to create an Ottoman Empire.

Answer 1Because there was a ruler that wanted that land and that ruler almost defeated him once.Answer 2Prior to the 20th century, most Europeans were pious Christians and many states had strict laws against the proselytization of Islam within their borders. Therefore, Islam only spread in areas that Muslims had conquered and controlled for centuries.
