ROK sent the second largest contingent of troops to South Vietnam; 150,000 men. Why? Because the US/allies helped them during the Korean War, and they felt it was only fair to help out the US/allies when they themselves were asked for help. So the ROKs complied. Addtionally, the ROK military prided themselves in "toughness" during those times, and they had a reputation for laying out their enemy body counts for all to see along the highway(s), especially in the Highlands (II Corps). Translation: The ROK military considered South Vietnam to be excellent combat experience (just in case Korea erupted again).
They sent men.
