they wore a white coat and they had their normal clothes underneath

A plague doctor wore a long black cloak which was waxed to "trap" the plague. They also wore a waxed hat and carried a cane which they used to remove the covers from victims and move the patents. Of course they wore the famous beaked mask. The beak was stuffed with sweet smelling herbs and the eye had crystal glass inserts. The whole design of the costume was to minimise skin exposure to the plague and therefore they believed protect themselves.

Doctors of that time were called 'plague doctors'. They wore what was considered to be an early form of a haz-mat suit; long robes, a mask on their face with a long beak filled with aromatic herbs (to ward away bad smells), a wide-brimmed black hat, a wooden cane (to prod the bodies with) and leather breeches. The main theme with this get-up was 'limited skin exposure'. Unfortunately, it also made them look exceedingly frightening.

They were refered to as ducks. They wore big black boots, gloves, allover white greatcoats, and a protective all over face mask with a red cone on the end by the nose witch contained poseys. This equipment was the best they could do but was not effective.

They wore long gloves, a big thick trench coat type shroud, boots and, a large mask with a beak for herbs to be inserted so to remove the stench of rotting flesh, with red ruby eyes because in those days they thought looking at a plague victim could get you sick and didn't want to contract the disease. Hope this helped!
