Hollyleaf killed Ashfur when he was by the river. She snuck up on him and bit him on the neck.he tried to fight but he lost too much blood. Hollyleaf was hopping he would float out into the middle of the lake.

Ashfur knew that Hollyleaf, Lionblaze, and Jayfeather were not Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw's kits. In order to "preserve" the warrior code, Hollyleaf killed Ashfur with a slash to his throat, then tossed him into the stream that borders ThunderClan and WindClan. According to Hollyleaf, the body was supposed to wash out out to the lake, but it did not, because it got caught on some rocks. The Gathering patrol found his body. Leafpool found the slash in his throat.

Hollyleaf killed Ashfur by pushing him into the lake, where he drowned. She did this in order to protect the secret of her true parentage and to prevent Ashfur from revealing the truth to others.
