Robert Fulton was the first to COMPLETE the first steamboat Robert Fulton. Robert Fulton did not invent the steam boat. John Fitch invented it, but he died before he fixed the problem in the engine. Robert Fulton is given credit for it because he finished John Fitch's design, and tweaked the engine. I don't believe Robert Fullerton contributed to the industrial revolution. However, Robert Fulton did. Robert Fulton contributed to to industrial revolution by tinkering and making inventions. He invented the concept of the steamboat, which allowed good to be transferred upstream. This was used most notably on the Mississippi River.
