Scrooge had once been a nice young fellow until he started to work and became money hungry (a miser) and worked so hard he forgot to spend time with his family and friends and to see the world as it truly was. When he was given the chance to go back in time by the spirits during Christmas, he saw the damage that he had done and how he had hurt and cheated the very people he loved. He was saddened, frightened and being an old man by this time wanted another chance badly to atone for the wrong he did. He was given that time and he became a very loving and giving person.
