What was te purpose of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address?

The purpose of the Gettysburg address, was for Abraham Lincoln to help to dedicate the National Soldiers Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. In one of the shortest speeches ever, Lincoln gave a speech honoring the men that had died on the 3 days of fighting and proclaiming that the end of the war would bring about "a new birth of freedom". Basically he said that because of those that died the nation would forever more be free. "And that the government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

Another thing is to dedicate the living to the struggle and to see that "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
