The USA Declared war on Japan. After we declared war we sent our aircraft carriers to japan with a bunch of of bombers. The big reason that we did this was to prove we could strike back and cause a lot of damage to them. This was called the doodle raide. The plane blow up a japanes industreal city and hope the bombers had enogh fuel to get into china because the aircrafts had to be a long way away so they wouldn't get destroyed.

The invasions of Manchuria and the Sino-Japanese War occurred six years apart. The United States did close to nothing when the Japanese invaded Manchuria. However, during the Sino-Japanese War, Japanese atrocities in China turned American opinion pro-Chinese and the United States sent both military and economic aid. In addition, the United States began a fuel embargo on Japan to limit its expansion. This led to the Japanese making the critical decision to openly engage the United States, by bombing Pearl Harbor.
