Generally speaking, the diet of most Americans during WW 2, were basically the same diets as before the war. There was rationing with regards to gasoline and perhaps other items relating to war production such as rubber for car tires. Food items were not rationed and the general diets of Americans consisted of various meats and vegetables, pastas, breads, eggs, fish and fruits.

As you probably know, there was a great shortage of food in world was 2, so they had to ration their food. The best foods to eat were those that there were a lot of, such as meat, tea and sugar. However, most people were encouraged to grow their own fruits and vegetables, so there would be more food for those who were unable to do this.
