I can't answer that question fully, but I can say that about 50% of the French men in that generation were killed and/or completely disabled. Something like 85% were injured in some way. So, women greatly outnumbered men of that generation. War widows were paid a pension, as were "White Widows." White widows were French women who had never married, but whose fiances had died in the war. There were so few men left, and women were so economically dependent on men, that the White Widows were paid a pension, as well. They would have starved to death without it. Elderly parents of killed or disabled soldiers were pensioned off, as were the disabled soldiers themselves. It got to the point where most people in France were collecting a war pension of some sort.

Many people think the unpredictability of war and the very high female to male ratio made premarital sex more common, and less scandalous.
World War I effected women by drafting them into the civilian work force and encouraging them to work outside of the home while supporting the war effort.

France lost much of it's previously fertile land. It gained some German land after the war ended. Much of the was was fought on French soil. It put them in great debt and they depend greatly on the payments from Germany after the war to keep the country going.

i) The position of women in France was much inferior to men in social status.

Except for daughters of nobles and wealthier classes, most women had no access to education and job training.

(ii) Along with tending to the family and house many women of the Third Estate engaged themselves in small jobs-worked as seamstresses or laundresses, sold flowers or worked as domestics for a living.

(iii) The wages of women were lower than those of men.

(iv) They were passive citizens with no political rights whatsoever.
