Both the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) are self-financing educational institutions. The CBSE and the ICSE have a different syllabus, education pattern, exams and other aspects.

One of the differences that can be noticed is that the Indian government has recognised CBSE, but has not recognised the ICSE. Though the certificate given by both the institutions are valid globally, the CBSE certificate has more value than the one of ICSE.

When talking about the syllabus, the CBSE has a more scientific approach. The whole syllabus is divided into several units. In each unit, is also specified the number of periods that are needed for completion. The syllabus also includes the amount of marks in each unit. The ICSE does not have such a scientific approach. Unlike the ICSE syllabus, the CBSE syllabus helps the teachers and students to plan for the exams in a more scientific way.

Moreover, the ICSE syllabus is considered to be heavy when compared to the CBSE. While the ICSE has two papers on English, the CBSE has only one paper. The ICSE has three papers in the science group (physics, chemistry and Biology), but the CBSE has only one paper. In social studies as well, the ICSE has two papers, geography and history, while the CBSE has only one Social Sciences paper. Another difference that can be seen, is that Environmental Education is compulsory with ICSE. On the contrary, it is not so with the CBSE.

In terms of the exam pattern, the entrance examinations follow the CBSE. This means that those students studying ICSE have a disadvantage when taking competitive exams, unlike the CBSE students.

Unlike the ICSE, the CBSE syllabi are frequently upgraded. The CBSE has a "Front Line Curriculum" concept that upgrades the syllabi with more relevant materials.

Anogther difference that can be seen between the CBSE and the ICSE, is that a large number of schools have affiliated with the CBSE, but not with the ICSE. Moreover, the CBSE Board allows regular and private candidates to take the exams. On the other hand, ICSE will not allow students who have not been studying in ICSE affiliated schools to take exams.

which board is better icse or cbse

ICSE , though is a good level onestill Cbse is better if we are mugging for some good competitive examsotherwise, theres not much difference

there is basically not much difference...icse does not hold over a large region.....cbse does...icse students have a much better grasp over english, they are comparable in science but cbse kids exceed in maths.....but as we see engllish is a subject that is internationally recognized whereas maths is something which helps in developement of scientific and logical side of the brain of a kid......so cbse kids outshow icse kids in scientific fields but lag behind in literature....so cbse stands preferable with an improved scope in english!and about the behaviour icse schools exercise rather more discipline....so icse kids are generally more civilised but this trend does change from place to place!

NIOS is equivalent to other boards like CBSE and ICSE. The only difference is that it is open schooling as compared to the regular classroom concept that other boards have. It is recognized at the same level.

Improve your English . You should ask which is 'tougher' . Anyway, ICSE board is tougher than CBSE , infact it has the toughest syllabus !!

cbse is better than ssc and icse

CBSE : Central Board of Secondary Education

of cource it is harder than cbse.class 8 syllabus of icse+10 class syallabus of cbse

I think ICSE goes one class ahead of CBSE till 10 class after that you better go for CBSE because most of the competetive exam follow the pattern of CBSE.

CBSE would be better for IIT-JEE.

Of course a big no - no,as every one knows that icse board is much tougher then that of cbse, cbse is favourable to get better marks in board exams but icse should be recommended most as its English is of high standard, icse use to teach in detail which is helpful bt on other hand marks is also needed for good scope in future which is favoured by cbse....I m also a student of icse board studying in class 11 and but have knowledge of these boards...Dont think friend to get into icse as u must hv a habit of studying cbse easy pattern as compared to icse....Hope so u will take right decision.. . . .. . ..

cbse & state board difference

I studied in CBSE for 12 years, from Kintergarden to Xth and moved over to State Board (TN) for my higher secondary. From my experience, I would rate ICSE to be the toughest, followed by CBSE and State. ICSE / CBSE syllabi are designed to promote thinking among children, going by the way examination questions are framed (answers to questions are not directly found in textbooks but are related to the syllabus) whereas state board examinations are usually straightforward questions from the book. The downside of ICSE / CBSE (esp if you happen to be in TN) is that you stand a much lesser chance of landing a seat in popular colleges (Engg / Med) since the entrance exams for these are based on state board syllabus and students from state board score much higher than those from ICSE / CBSE since they are considered on a level platform irrspective of the boards. also it is the cbse syllabus which helps one to crack all sorts of competitive exams and it brings out the true knowledge of a person.

I presume icse is for 12th exam and isc board for class 10 exam.they are mainly for those students who want to go abroad for higher studies.
