They don't believe in killing non believers. Islam is actually more peaceful than Christianity if their holy texts are taken literally. What is happening now is a result of extreme radicalism in a tiny part of the world's Islamic population. The problem is that now, most people think that all Muslims are out to kill everybody who doesn't practice their faith.

First of all, it is well known that there are over 109 verses in the Quran which explicitly license Muslims to kill those who do not believe. Muslim scholars themselves insist that the most worthy among Muslims are those who actively seek the Jihad, and every practicing Muslim knows that killing in the name of Allah is the ultimate act of holiness. Further, the Quran encourages torture and brutality as equally valid and honorable means of conversion. It also states that Allah's followers are to actively seek the Jihad. This means that Muslims must actively pursue war with nonbelievers, whether provoked or not. All Muslims know that this killing is to be revered. It is the westernized portion of Islam that is content to blend into peaceful society and to wait for their time. The others are very effectively taking over countries and spreading Islam through terror, and we await possible conflict while eating every lie that politics feed us. Also, before comparing the peacefulness of Christianity to that of Islam, realize that what a religion teaches and what its followers do may not necessarily coincide. Just refer to the authorities in either religion and you will find numerous inconsistencies in what the religion teaches and what people actually do. Many lukewarm Muslims today would be shunned by their devout counterparts. Similarly, many Christians today are so lax in their practice that they bear no real Christian identity.
