An adaptation is a way an animal's body helps it survive, or live, in its environment.
Examples of the basic adaptations that help animals survive:
It helps them because well heres a exaple for a adaptations to help a puffer fish survive in its envirment . Lets say a fish came up and tried to eat it the puffer fish would attack the fish with its spikes.
it give plants and animals get better homes.
Since the beginning, animals have succeeded to survive by evolving and adapting to their environment around them. Animals can evolve by changing their habits, their diets, their mental thinking patterns, and even their physical anatomy. Animals can also adapt to their environment in ways such as changing their living structures, their hunting patterns, and even their internal body temperatures.
Take for an example, the red fox. Native to North America, the red fox is a secondary consumer on the trophic level. This small carnivore has taken to eating other small, herbivore mammals such as rabbits, field mice, and ground squirrels. Even though the fox may have the upper hand over these tiny mammals, it is still second to the apex predators such as the gray wolf. If a fox had a hunting trail that was beginning to be constantly crossed over by wolves as they made their new hunting trail, the tiny twelve pound animal would not pick a fight with the towering 3 foot tall, 100 pound wolf. If it did, it would eventually be torn to pieces by the gigantic wolf. It would simply adapt to the change, and find a new, equally or perhaps more effective trail to do its hunting. Thus, by avoiding the wolves and finding a new hunting trail to stalk and consume its original food source, the fox finds a way to adapt and survive.
Adaptations help animals survive by helping them get used to the climate and the shelters and food they can find.
they keep them warm in the winter. Make it easy for them to hunt and so on...

Their "in-built" behaviour is a major adaption in helping them survive as ,like other rodents, at the first sign of danger the run and hide. Chinchillas are burrowing animals and this adaption helps them survive by giving them a home that would be difficult for some hunters to get into.
