Normally Antelope stick together in herds, and their best means of defence is flight. Therefore most antelope will literally raise their tail and run away. The raised tail shows the white of their backside, which confuses the attacker.

Sometimes a bull buffalo or wildebeest will be attacked, and running is not an option. In this case, the creature will turn and fight. Often a lion will get on the wrong side of a buffalo and will be fatally wounded.
