Why do you need a ground wire?

The bare (or green) grounding wire is for user safety. If there is a fault inside an appliance, a wire can become disconnected and touch other parts. If it is the "hot" side of the circuit, the parts can become energized (whether or not the switch is on). This is a dangerous hazard because a person can touch the appliance, while being grounded by touching something else, and "complete" the circuit; namely electrocution. With a safety grounding wire, there is a better chance that any parts a person could touch would be connected to the grounding wire, and thus the same hot fault would cause a short circuit to trip the breaker.

A ground wire, in any context, can be used in two main ways. Mostly, it is used to collect stray signals from entering the circuit by grounding them out. In some cases, such as aircraft applications, it can also be used to make a common ground for all systems.

In case the electricity leaks. The ground wire will send the charge to the ground to prevent you from being electrecuted.

The ground or earth wire is a safety feature in each property that enables all electrical equipment with metal parts on the exterior, that might come into contact with people, to be connected together and to the neutral side of the supply, and also to gas and water pipes in each property. The ground wire normally carries no current but when a piece of equipment is faulty the live side of the supply could come into contact with the case, in which case a fault current would travel down the earth wire to blow the fuse.

In UK properties the earth of the supply must be bonded to the water and gas pipes, as close to the point of entry as possible, with a wire of at least 10 sq. mm cross-section.

The grounding system in electrical circuits is used to create a low impedance return feed back to the distribution supply service. It is this low impedance return that carries the fault current back to the distribution service that trips the breaker or blows the fuse that is protecting the circuit. Without the ground wire the fault would have to travel on the neutral conductor of the circuit and that wire, at times, is not the shortest path back to the distribution service panel.

to protect ourself from a shock

the Earth wire connected saves from the short circuiting in households

that's why we need a ground i.e. earth i electronic circuits

Will the bird on the high voltage wire be shocked?

Apparently not. They don't drop to the ground dead while sitting on the wire, but are able to primp, preen, look around, and leave the wire when they feel like it.

What can ground a person in order to not receive an electrical shock getting in and out of a car?

You may have better success grounding the vehicle instead. The next time you see a fuel truck or propane tanker, take a note at the braided wire that continously drags the ground at or near the rear axle. This wire attaches to the frame and continously grounds the vehicle. This prevents the spark that can cause an explosion. These devices can be home made or purchased at some auto parts stores. It will need to be replaced over time as the friction of the ground will wear it away.

Will current flow more easily through a long wire or a short wire?

don't know that's why i need help

What happens if earth and live wires touch each other?

Electricity seeks the fastest path to the ground. If a live wire happens to touch the ground most often the line will "ground out" and cause the electricity to flow into the ground. This can cause breaks and circuits to break and cause other electrical malfunctions.

What will happen If you touch a live wire with one hand and the ground with the other hand while your feet are insulated?

The current will flow from the live wire to the ground, through both of your hands, through both of your arms, and along several paths through the rest of your body in inverse proportion to the resistance of each path. With your heart and spinal cord pretty much on the geometrically direct path, your chance of survival essentially boils down to the voltage on the live wire, how dry the skin of your hands is, and how much of your skin touches the live wire and the ground connection. If the live wire is part of the AC wiring in your house, and you have a good firm grip on it, and the fingers of your other hand are wrapped around a water pipe, I would not give you a 1% chance of seeing another day.

No

What do you do with the ground wire when installing a new thermostat that doesn't have a connection for the ground wire It's a 4 wire Honeywell thermostat Is it ok to not connect the ground wire?

That Thermostat is LOW voltage. IT does not have a ground wire. There is no need for a ground. it only opperates on 24 volts. there may be a green wire but it does not mean it is a ground

What do you need and how can you install a ground cable if your 240V outlet doesn't have a ground wire?

You need a 3 conductor wire with ground. For example if you had a 30 amp breaker for that outlet you would need 10awg 3w/ground. That's 10 gauge 3 conductor with ground and replace the old wire back to the panel.

Does the ground wire on a 200 amp box need to be 3 ought also?

No, you can use #4 bare copper ground wire.

Is a wire marked comm a ground wire?

Probably not. We'd need to know what the wire goes to in order to be certain about this.

How can you test a fuel pump out of the tank?

You can test the fuel pump by touching the positive wire on the positive post of the battery. You will need to ground the ground wire.

Grounding a plastic box is a little hard as plastic is a nonconductor.be satisfied with grounding to a ground wire.

Do you need 3-wire romex to feed bedroom ceiling box by electrical code?

No, you can feed it with a 2 wire Romex + ground. It depends on what is mounted on the ceiling. If it is just a light all you need is 2 wire + ground Romex. However if it is a fan/light and you want to control each one independant of the other you will need to use 3 wire Romex + ground. This is of course if you have 2 seperate switches. You would then connect the red wire to the blue light wire and the black wire to the black fan wire. If you use 2 wire Romex just connect the blue and black fan/light wire to the black wire in the ceiling box.

How do I test for a ground wire?

Check the continuity of the ground wire from both the ends. Ensure the ground wire is properly connected to earth / ground terminals

How do you bypass the e brake for the Jensen vm9312hd in dash DVD?

Its very simple to bypass the parking brake on Kenwoods. All the parking brake wire is is a ground wire. So, all you need to do is take the parking brake wire and either ground it or join it to the ground wire on the harness by soldering or whatever you wanna do.
