The candle is lit on Holy Saturday and is walked throughout the church to represent the eternal life in Christ. The candle is also inscribed with the Alpha and Omega letters from the Greek alphabet, along with the current year by the priest. It is lit every day through out the church year, ending on Ascension Thursday.

∙ 11y agoWater represents cleansing from sin in Baptism, the few drops of water mixed with the wine at the altar represent to indicate the union of Christ with the faithful and the blood and water that flowed from the side of Christ on Calvary. The paschal candle is symbolic of the risen Savior, Light of the World.
