The paschal candle represents that Christ is the Light of the World. It is made of pure beeswax to signify that Christ Himself was sinless, The wick represents His human nature, and the flame represents His divinity. There are also five grains of incense in the candle, to represent the oils used as the Body was placed into the tomb, along with the five marks; Jesus' hands, feet, and side. The candle is lit on Holy Saturday and is walked throughout the church to represent the eternal life in Christ. The candle is also inscribed with the Alpha and Omega letters from the Greek alphabet, along with the current year by the priest. It is lit every day through out the church year, ending on Ascension Thursday.
