Actually there is no significant meaning to the 25 stars on the current NFL logo (1980-2007). However with the change to the logo due in 2008, the new logo will have 8 stars representing the eight AFC and NFC divisions. As an example, two gold stars represents two years as a captain. A player who has held the position of captain on two or more separate teams may have a gold star for each year, regardless of which team he is currently playing for.
