Which woodwind instrument does not use bellows as a source of air?

The mouthpiece of a woodwind instrument is the part of the instrument which is placed partly in the player's mouth. Single-reed instruments have mouthpieces while exposed double-reed instruments and open flutes do not have mouthpieces. The oboe and the bassoon are two instruments that have a double reed.

What do all woodwind instruments have that a flute ddoesn't have?

A reed, single or double, is common to all woodwinds except the flute and recorder. The thing that differentiates the flutes is that they are of two types transverse and end blown. This makes the endblown flute the same as the recorder (or whistle). The unique woodwind is therefore the transverse flute as it has an opening that the player blows across not through. The common feature of the other woodwinds is a mouthpiece.

What do you call person who plays the oboe?

How do woodwind instruments work?

Wood wind instruments work by making the lips purchase on a reed and making it vibrate. Clarinets and saxophones are single reeded. Oboes and bassoons are double reeded. With single reed instruments, the instrument is held by the upper teeth and the lower lip makes the reed vibrate. With double reed instruments, the double reed is held by the lips only, which make it vibrate. The 'lip holding' is called 'embouchure'. When learning to play the facial muscles about the mouth have to be used. Playing becomes more proficient as the facial muscles strengthen. All instruments have stops/valves on them to alter the note.

What are characteristics of woodwind instruments?

Woodwind instruments are woodwind for one of two reasons: They are/used to be made out of wood (Eg a flute or clarinet) They use a reed which is made of wood (Eg saxophone, oboe, bassoon)

Is brass instrument is lower pitch then woodwind instrument?

Yes, brass instruments produce a lower pitch than woodwind instruments. Woodwind instruments use a reed to vibrate the air to produce sound, whereas brass instruments produce sound from the player's lips vibrating in a mouthpiece.
