Many different types of "house" were used by different groups of native Americans from Alaska to the southern tip of South America: wigwams (covered in birchbark), longhouses, tipis (covered with buffalo hide), wickiups, grass lodges, earth lodges, chickees, the communal Nhyrykwã of the Kayapo and many more.

The type of dwelling used was dictated by available materials in each location.

Depends on the tribe and where they live. There are many types of Native Americans and many tribes through out the United States which means that the geography and life styles determines the type of housing they would have.
