If it were mine I would chip out the concrete down to the point where the pipe is solid then I would install a new closet flange.

How do you replace cast iron flange?

You have to take the lead and packing out that is holding the flange in the next piece of pipe. If your flange is broke where the toilet bolts go, this is very common. There is a repair available for this. It consists of two curved pieces of metal that are about 1/3 of the circumference of the flange. They go under the flange and give you a new place to put the bolt. They are a lot easier to use than replacing the whole flange.

How do you install a cast iron flange on a cast iron pipe?

You can buy the new cast iron flanges, with the expandable O rings that push into the pipe or you'll have to do the old style or pouring lead onto a cast iron flange. The latter option should only be done by professionals.

Does the toilet flange go on the inside or outside of soil pipe?

Toilet flanges OUTSIDE of the pipe including cast iron and brass to lead

What is Difference Between FF & RF Flanges?

Flanges are an integral part of the Piping industry. These Flanges are used to form a link between two different Pipes. Flat (FF), elevated (RF), ring joint (RTJ), lap joint (M&F), tongue, and groove (T&G) are the 6 styles of flange faces needed. Multi-faced flanges need different gaskets and should never be matted to avoid joint leakage. The flanges RF and FF may have various finishing forms (i.e. roughness at the top of the surface): flat, lined, and serrated. Although flanges themselves have specific pound scores that reflect the levels of pressure and temperature to which they can operate, the individual flange faces vary depending on the context within which they are to be used.Various types of flange faces are used to seat the sealing gasket content as the contact surfaces. The faces are panels which matt with flanges, funnels or valves. Flange faces must be smooth enough to ensure that the flanges are fastened together to maintain a stable, leak-free seal. For this article, we must concentrate on three common types of flange faces; flat faces raised faces, and ring-style joints.Flat Face Flanges (FF)The flat-facing flange has a gasket surface in the same plane as the face of the bolt frame. Goods using flat face flanges are often those in which mold is used to make the matching flange or flanged cover. Flat face flanges should never be placed on an inverted side flange. ASME B31.1 notes that the raised face on the carbon steel flange must be removed while attaching flat face cast iron flanges to carbon steel flanges and that a full face gasket is needed. This is to prevent the small, brittle cast iron flange from splashing into the void created by the carbon steel flange’s raised nose. This type of flange face is used to make equipment and valves for all applications where Cast Iron is used for making. Cast Iron is brittle and is commonly used only in applications with low temperature, low pressure. The flat surface allows full contact of the two flanges across the entire face. Flat face flanges (FF) have a touch surface that is equivalent in height to the bolting thread of the flange. Full face gaskets are used between two flat side flanges, typically of the soft kind. According to ASME B31.3, as the resultant flanges joint will possibly leak, a flat face flange should never be matted with an elevated face flange.Raised Face Flanges (RF)The Raised Face Flange is the most common type used in process plant applications, and can be easily identified. It is referred to as a face raised because the surfaces of the gasket are positioned above the face of the bolting circle. Each style of mask requires a large range of gasket styles to be used, including varieties of flat ring sheets and metallic composites such as spiral-wrapped and double jacket forms. An RF flange aims to focus further pressure on a smaller area of the gasket and thus improve the joint’s pressure control capacity. Diameter and height, by pressure class and diameter, are described in ASME B16.5. Flange pressure level specifies the height of the face that is lifted. An RF flange aims to concentrate more pressure on a smaller area of the gasket, thereby increasing the joint’s pressure containment capacity. Diameter and height, by pressure class and diameter, are described in ASME B16.5. Pressure flange rating.

What is the best way to move the toilet flange a couple of feet and is there an adapter to go from cast iron to PVC?

Cut the toilet line down at the first 90 from the flange, and relocate so that your toilet is still vented from it's orignal vent. If it is dry vented, you need to move the toilet and the vent. A no-hub band or fernco coupling is the preferred transistion from cast iron to PVC.Ans 2 -good advice. - BTW, - a Fernco is a heavy duty rubber coupling with a hose clamp each end. They come in many sizes.

How to repair closet flange?

Cast iron, often break where the bolts sit. There is a repair kit available. It is two flat curved pieces of metal about 3/4 wide and one third the circumference of the flange. It slides under the flange and pulls against the remaining cast iron. There is a complete ring available that is just a flat ring with 6 ears sticking out around the edge that should clear the cast iron. Screw it down to the floor and install the toilet. The full ring can be used with any flange.

How do you remove the broken closet flange from a cast iron drain pipe?

I removed the broken flange by perforating the lead filling between the drain pipe and the flange - i.e., drilling holes every 1/4-1/2 inch or so with a regular drill and then sawing through the filling with a power saber saw. Then pried the flange off with a pry bar. Wasn't as bad as I expected. - Dan

Can you use forged flange with cast flange?

Normally whether use the forged flange or cast flange depends on the design code, material, pressure, temperature, stress strength and medium of the piping system. It has been decided since the beginning of the design. If forged flange is chosen, it is very dangerous for you to use cast flange due to its much lower strength and other mechanical&chemical performance. If cast flange is chosen, it is not sensible to change it to forged flange because of the high cost. Visit Hebei Metals Industrial Limited website for more information about the forged flange. www.metalsflange.com

How do you install a regular toilet flange on a cast iron 6 inch sewer pipe?

If you can get to the 6 inch cast iron, you could use a rubber coupler between the cast and the flange. If it is in the concrete, put a piece of 4 inch PVC inside the 6 inch and lead it in like you would a regular cast joint. Leave the 4 inch above the floor and slide the flange over it, screw it down and cut the 4 inch flush with the flange. They make just the flange that will slide over the pipe.

How do you replace a broken cast iron toilet flange?

If you are a do it yourselfer, there are many adapters available to replace a broken cast-iron toilet flange. These adapters can be made of cast-iron itself or PVC. They are made to be inserted into the existing pipe where a rubber gasket is tightened to create a water tight seal. The adapter incorporates a new flange which is attached to the existing sub-floor. Other adapters even help in the case of damaged or rotten sub-floor around the waste pipe. If you do a search on "Repair Kit For Cast-Iron Closet Flange" you should come up with numerous options or you can visit your local pluming supply company who can provide you with both products and answers to any questions/concerns you might have. And if you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself after investigating what is involved, call a licensed plumber.
