pulse to see if the heart is beating and if the person is alive or needs CPR.
CPR for the lay person, denoted just CPR, there is no longer a pulse check for an adult, so once CPR is started, it will be continued unless the person begins to show signs of life. In CPR-FPR (CPR for the Professional Rescuer) there is still a circulation check, so RB at 1 breath / 5 seconds is part of that certification. To specifically answer your question, most people would do CPR and not check for a pulse on an adult, because it is not part of the curriculum. For a professional person, they would perform rescue breathing with a pulse and CPR without a pulse.
You not allowed to perform CPR if: 1. There is danger to your own life 2. If a guardian of the individual will not give you permission to perform CPR 3. There is a verified DNR physician order 4. The person doesn't need CPR 5. Higher level medical personell arrive to take over and ask you to stop CPR
First perform an Initial Assessment. Open the airway, Check for breathing, if there is no breathing give two rescue breaths. If the rescue breaths go in and make the chest clearly rise check for a pulse. IF there is no pulse begin CPR.
For the condition of no breathing and no pulse, immediately commence CPR.
You should use CPR if a person is not breathing (place your ear nearly to their nose/mouth, and look, listen, feel for warmth) and has no pulse (using you pointer finger, feel along the side of the neck for a carotid pulse).
they should be able to feel a pulse on that person.
Do not stop CPR to check for a pulse.
You would only administer CPR if the person does not have a pulse or (at a slightly lower place on the chest) if you knew/believed the person was choking. Otherwise, if the person has a pulse but is not breathing, you should administer rescue breaths.
If signs of life become visible you should check for a pulse. If the victim has no pulse, CPR should be continued. If the victim has a pulse, CPR should be ceased but you must continue to monitor the victim's vital signs.
Yes. You do CPR to mimic the action of the heart. If a person has a pulse it means their heart is pumping. If you give CPR to someone with no pulse, when their heart starts again they will typically vomit as a result of all the pushing on the chest. At that point stop and roll them on to their side so they dont choke. Edit: Dont confuse not breathing with a stopped heart. A person can have a pulse and still not be breathing. Think of being underwater. If you come across a person that is not breathing but has a pulse you need to open the airway. Lay them on their back, tilt the head backwards and open the jaw. Look for and clear any obstructions in their mouth.
