What do you do if you need braces but insurance will only pay a small portion of it and you cannot afford the rest?

Most states require insurance. You should think of auto insurance as part of the cost of owning a car... if you can't afford the insurance, you can't afford the car and shouldn't have one.

There are some insurance plans that cover part of the cost of braces. I would consult an orthodontist to get an approximate price as every case is different. Most have payment plans where the entire cost is divided over 20-24 months (which is usually how long you wear the braces).

At the othodontist office I go to they won't take your braces off until you have finished paying, that's how many places are.
