This never happen to me but I would go away from both of 'em. And you have nothing to lose becose you can't love two people in the same time...
It would seem to me to depend on how serious the "dating" is:
- casual dating is mostly getting to know other people without having any commitment. if this is the type of dating involved one would naturally be dating several people. there should be no problem or issues if 2 of them find out about each other.
- exclusive dating involves a commitment to date only the one person, but is likely to terminate if either becomes dissatisfied and/or finds someone else.
- courting is formal dating with the express intent of marriage at some point in the future. it should be totally exclusive.
- engagement begins when a courting couple commits to actual marriage. violation of exclusivity at this point would terminate the engagement and separate the couple also terminating courtship. in a way engagement is a trial period before making the legal/religious commitments of marriage.
- dating in marriage is vital to maintaining the life of the marriage. failure of the couple to continue dating similar to when they were courting is a major cause of divorce. any violation of exclusivity is called cheating and traditionally grounds for divorce.
There is usually some overlap period during the transition from casual dating to exclusive dating and from exclusive dating to courting where the "rules" blur a little.
