It depends on how much older the person is. I noticed this is in the teen dating category, so as a teen even a year can make a difference on how the couple is perceived. As you grow older, a few years difference isn't really a big deal. In fact, one of the couples I know that has been married for over twenty years has a ten year age difference. If your friend's crush bothers you, or you don't think that he or she is the right choice for your friend, tell him/her. It may seem like an impossible task, but believe me, it will help. Just say "I don't really like so-and-so because he/she seems..." or something like that. Whatever you do, don't pose and ultimatum and tell your friend that they have to chose between you or their crush, that isn't fair. The best you can do is to accept this fact, or tell them, if the age difference is great, why you think the relationship won't work. If all else fails, try to spend a lot of time with him/her along with your other friends to help that person be distracted from their longing.
