If you are looking to become a GC in the construction industry, you'll have a lot of shoes to fill in this position. From my experience, here are a few key skills that you'll need or will need to learn:
1. Contracts & Negotiation
2. Sub Contractors in every field possible for emergency situations
3. Excellent office skills (typing, grammar, etc.)
4. Verbal communication must be specific and to the point
5. Have 10+ different jobs/situations going on in different areas all at the same time
6. No specific days off
You can learn alot of these from starting out with a smaller construction firm/business and also obtaining more info from books and your sba.org office closest to you.
