I was on the Poms Team at my middle school in 8th grade (just this last year). Poms is definatley not as high leveled as a high school dance team. I would mainly say in Poms you focus on learning multiple routines and some (very little in my case) teqnique. When I tried out for my high school dance team, I did not make it. It was very intense learning all of the teqnique. I have since started taking dance classes, as Poms really did not prepare me for it. So basically, for Poms I would say you need the ablility to dance, and be able to do basic turns, kicks, leaps etc.
usually either tan or black jazz shoes. (BLOCH brand)
i wouldn't call them props persay, i would call them extras. you can use signs to represent your team or pom poms and things such as that. megaphones also flags also
There's no law against breakdancing while cheerleading. You could if you wanted to, but you wouldn't breakdance while holding pom-poms when you're supposed to be cheering for your sports team.
Pom requires a lot of energy and sharp, dynamic movements. It requires a lot of stamina as a good routine usually consists of several jumps, turns, leaps and even aerials sometimes. You may not realize but because of the poms, you get worn out quite quickly. It is a great way to get fit and majority of the time fun:). Usually at competition length it is 2.30mins.
There are two related forms known as Morris Dancing. There are the various traditional dances of the British Isles which are collectively known as "Morris Dancing". These include quite a variety of dance forms including Cotswold, Border, North-West, Rapper, and Sword dancing. Some of these types have more of a male tradition, others more a female, but today dancers of both sexes can be found dancing all forms. Dancers can be found performing these dances all over the UK and in many other countries across the world. Their origins seem to be in 14th Century Courtly dances and relatives of Morris dancing can be found surviving across Europe. There is the type also known as Carnival or "Fluffy" Morris which involves mainly groups of girls dancing processional forms that originated from North-West Morris dancing. Girls have dresses, shakers (pom poms) and pumps with bells on. They go to competitions every week, then after the Christmas term train until march. Woody Malmesbury Morris
