∙ 15y agoA.D. is "Ano Domini," Latin for "year of our Lord." Beginning from the presumed birth year of Jesus, 1 A.D. Many english-speaking persons wrongly believe A.D. is short for "after death," placing the year of Jesus' death at 1 A.D., but the correct year of death for Jesus according to the Christian Bible would be 33 A.D. There are some members of society who prefer to remove the reference to Jesus, and use the "C.E." abbreviation which stands for "common era." However, both A.D. and C.E. refer to the Gregorian calandar familiar to most of the Western Hemisphere.

Anno Domini? If you're talking about dates, "AD" stands for "Anno Domini", meaning "In the Year of our Lord". A non-Christian would use the term "CE" for "Common Era" in the same sense.
