The colour, referred to also process colour or the fours colours, is a subtractive colour model, used when printing colour (which may also be known as printing cartridges).
It can be used to also describe the printing process itself.
CMYK means the four inks used in most printing:
Cyan
Magenta
Yellow
Key (black
CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key (in offset printing is known as black as well). This is color profile photographers use on their photographs if the intention is to print them, since most printers only work on CMYK (hence all the cartridges use the Cyan, Magenta, yellow, and black colors). CMYK is limited in color range, so it must only be used in offset printing, to display in screen, Adobe 1998 or sRGB are better profiles for screens.
CMYK stands for color model, four color. It is the process used in printing where four colors are used to create the desired printed colour. When all the colors are printed together the color black is seen on the page.

K is used to represent Black in CMYK because B is already used for Blue in RGB.
The K in CMYK can can stand for either blacK or Key colour. The "K" in CMYK stands for key since in four-color printing cyan, magenta, and yellow printing plates are carefully keyed or aligned with the key of the black.Suggesting that the "K" in CMYK comes from the last letter in "black" and was chosen because B already means is incorrect.Courtesy of Wikipedia;http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CMYK_color_model
