Bible comes from the Greek word "biblos" which means "book". It is the Jewish collection of the history books from the beginning of time, books addressing the people of Israel, and the writings of the apostles of Jesus. As to what it means, the text speaks for itself.
I think it mean word or holy word.

The Holy Bible is a book that was written for believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Christian. Until a person becomes a Christian they will not understand what The Bible means. They may have a simplistic idea but will never understand the true meaning of the book (I Corinthians 2:16), "But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned". Jesus tells us in John 6:63, "It is the Spirit that gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit and they are life".

The Bible tells the Christian about their Savior Jesus Christ and how to live in the world that God has given to us and how we are to respond to our brothers and sisters in Christ as well as to the unbelieving world. The Bible tells us of the past and how God was going to bring in the Messiah and the Bible tells us of the future and what a wonderful place He has prepared for those who believe in Him. But God has also told us what is going to happen to those who do not believe. Some of these unbelievers are in our own blood-kin family. This brings compassion to our hearts for the unbelieving of this world and we are encouraged to pray for these people and to speak to these people that perhaps God is willing to bring some of them to salvation. The bible was written for all who believe that they may encourage others to believe.

It is important to Christians because for them, it is like their guide book for life. It is also a text book because it tells the story of Jesus, the twelve apostles, and many other characters from the New Testament and the Old Testament. It is the Word of God.

Jesus means many things to Christians:

He is the beginning and the end (alpha and omega) - Revelation 22:13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last."

He is God - Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

He is the only begotten son - John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

He is the anointed one (Messiah / Christ) - John 1:41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated, the Christ).

John 1:42 And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, "You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas" (which is translated, A Stone).

He is Immanuel - Matthew 1:23 "A virgin will become pregnant and have a son, and he will be called Immanuel" (which means, "God is with us").

He is Saviour - John 4:42 Then they said to the woman, "Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."

He is judge - Acts 10:42 And he commanded us to preach the gospel to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God has appointed judge of the living and the dead.

He is the door - John 10:9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

He is the way the truth and the life. - John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Without Jesus there would be no Christianity.

Many Christians use the Holy Bible as a guide. The verses in the Bible offer parables, proverbs and stories that illustrate God’s thoughts and desire for His people. Many find comfort in the verse feeling that God speaks to them through the words.
