This refers to Scrooge placing a lamp extinguisher over the flame taht comes from teh spirit. This was the light to see into Scrooges dark past. By placing the exinguisher over the flame the light goes out and the spirit disappears

He sees his early life of loneliness and then sees his beloved sister Fan come to take him home . Then he sees Fans death in child birth (of Fred). Having seen himself leave the house when Fan slips in and out of a coma he realises that Fan begs him after he left the room to "look after her boy (Fred), he realises that he has let his much loved sister down and has actually disowned Fred since the time of his birth.

Scrooge sees some of the evenst that harded him i.e. Being left in boarding school contiually even at Christmas, the death of his much loved sister Fan and the loss of his betroathed Belle when she dreaks their engagement. He also sees the positve happy times where Christmas was fun adn people were "nice" when he worked for Fezziwig
