What does a car do when the hydraulic lifters are going bad?
You will hear valve train clatter.
In most cases, you can tell that your lifters are bad, in your car engine, by the ticking noise. A bad lifter will make a tapping sound.
it depends on the car
Usually when someone is talking about lifters with cars they are talking about the hydraulic lifters inside the engine that come in contact with the cam and lubricate the push rods that control the valves in each individual cylinder. Sometimes I've heard people mention lifters when talking about the struts used by some folks to raise or lower their car or even to "bounce' the car.
You find a book to the car or go to autozone.com and print the directions....then follow them.
What is causing a loud tapping noise when car is first turned on but goes away after a few minutes in a 2000 gmc jimmy?
Fuel injectors don't tap. You are hearing the hydraulic valve lifters which are full of oil when functioning properly. Without sufficient oil they will make a tapping sound. If the car has sat for along time they will sometimes tap for a few seconds when you first crank it up. If yours valve lifters are tapping intermediately I would suggest checking your oil level and if that is OK you may have an oil pump… Read More
As you give very little information as to make, model, engine size or year, and exactly when it is ticking, this is just an educated guess. Normally this is valve noise caused by valve clearance issues. If it has solid lifters then they need adjusting. If it has hydraulic lifters, they may be clogged and sticking. If it has hydraulic lifters try adding a can of Seafoam engine tune to a fresh oil filter change… Read More
Your car has a cam-shaft that controls the positioning of the cylinder valves. It MAY contact the valves directly, but in most cars they are not close together. To transmit the action of the cams to the valves they might have used rocker arms and lengths of metal. Those lengths of metal are called lifters. An improved version uses a tube filled with oil and are called hydraulic lifters.
The lifters are in the cylinder heads. The lifters are in the cylinder heads.
Marvel Mystery oil, or a similar "top end" lubricant, after an oil/filter change. Depends on the age and valve system on you car. They could just need adjustment. Modern engines use hydraulic valve lifters. If these persist in rattling after warm up, you could have a worn camshaft and/or vlave lifters.
It could be hydraulic lifters that have collapsed overnight and need a little oil pressure to get them working properly again. If that's all it is, don't worry.
What you are hearing is the hydraulic lifters before they come up in pressure and is normal for pretty much all Miatas. This page has good information on hydraulic lifters and how they work. http://www.miata.net/garage/hla/index.html As for hearing them during running it could be that you are low on oil. I have noticed this a few times at AutoX events after the car has burned off some oil. Check the oil level and make sure… Read More
if your car needs major work done to it don't spend a fortune fixing it but usually you can drive the car "into the ground" meaning until it dies with normal maintance like oil changes and that stuff with the lifters being bad. what you should do when you hear the noise from the lifters starting take your foot off the gas for a minute and then slowly give it more gas.
It is a possibility that the hydraulic suspension has gone bad...It is a problem with that year and is best to have removed.
What is the loud tic-toc noise after I start a car and after I turn off the car for a few seconds and goes away?
It could be the lifters. Depending on the mileage and care as far as frequent oil changes one o rmor eof your lifters may be making a tickign sound. As the oil pressure builds up..........say after a minute or two does it go away? Try this....just turn the engien on and let it on and see if the ticking goes away when it warms up. If not, then it is probably not the lifters. The… Read More
A ticking sound at startup can be a couple of things. It can be a worn drive belt, especially if it does not go away fairly quickly. It also can be a valve lifter noise. Check the drive belt and replace if necessary. Change the oil and try using a different brand oil filter. Purolator, AC/Delco, Wix, Motorcraft, are all good. I would use an OEM type filter to start with. If the car has… Read More
Low oil level or pressure Hydraulic lifter bad
It's where fluid (usually oil) is used to amplify pressure. Examples would be forklifts, car jacks, lifts of all kinds and the brakes on your car. Lose pressure on some of these in use, and they will fall.
Sounds like you are hearing lifter noise. If this engine has solid lifters, then they can be adjusted to remove most of the noise. If it has hydraulic lifters, try pouring one can of Seafoam Cleaner in the crankcase with the oil. Seafoam can be purchased at most auto parts stores. Drive the car for 500 miles and then change the oil & filter. Repeat if necessary. This may or may not help.
The brakes in my car are hydraulic.
It is important to know the signs of a bad car part. If an AC clutch bearing going bad, the biggest indication would be the trouble driving with the AC on in the car.
It is important to know the signs and symptoms of car parts going bad. A thump sound when a car is in reverse is usually made when the transmission is going bad and shifting incorrectly.?æ
Hydraulic pressure is exerted on a piston under the car forcing the piston and the car upwards.
hydraulic car lift and hydraulic tire changer
A hydraulic car lift is typically used in garages to check and maintain the underside of the car. Alternatively it can be used by car dealerships to stack cars safely. There is even companies that offer to install hydraulic car lifts under your driveways to allow you to store your cars.
A car failing to start is an indicator that a starter is going bad. A bad starter can also cause a screeching sound when the key is turned.
They work just like a hydraulic car jack. Just with a chair on top instead of a car.
Hydraulic oil and hydraulic fluid are different. Hydraulic fluid is used in small systems such as car brakes. Hydraulic oil is used in large systems such as loaders.
No ... A bad neutral safety switch will let the car start in any gear, but will not prevent the car from going into reverse
yes, its really risky because driving with bad brakes can probably cause a hydraulic failiure your brakes can fail and you dont want to know what happens so get your brakes checked
Could be, Air in the PS system, Loose/worn PS belt, PS pump going bad, CV axle joint going bad, Wheel bearing going bad,
If you have had a car for two weeks and its starting to make noises under the hood someone says it sound like the lifters is the car lot responsible for fixing the car?
no the car lot is not responsible they will actually do things to cover up nosies just to get you to buy the car for example they can put thicker oil and make the sound of a lifter tapping go away for a little while the oil breaks down after a little while and you will here the tapping the only thing you can do now its drive the car until it get so bad… Read More
Don't try to fix them, replace them with new ones.
Car brake hydraulic system.
bad o2 sensor Could also be a power brake booster going bad.
Not if you are going to keep the car for years.
YEs, they can make it not start, almost anything can make a car not start, First, does the car turn over? is it gettn fuel,?? theres a bleader valve under the hood on the pass side at the back attached to the fuel rail, looks like a tire valve, to test it depress the valve when someone trys to start the car, if no fuel comes out you fuel pump is not work'n or fuel… Read More
Make sure you are not using a heavy oil in that car the oil light will stay on and the car wont register you have oil in it till it warms up and that is bad when the oil sending unit isn't getting oil to your lifters and pistons.
A bearing going bad.
been drinking, car trouble, bad weather, going to airport
the hydraulic system is used to make your car more fun where u can make it bounce
Most automobile repair shops have one or more hydraulic lifts to service your car.
no,because boat uses hydraulic oil of less viscosity.
Whether the car hits the truck or the truck hits the car, it's going to be bad for the car.
It is still important to have a car loan even with bad credit if you wish to purchase a car. By going through your bank you can find the best way to take out this type of loan.
It is important to recognize the signs of car parts going bad. The symptoms of an ignition coil going bad are bad fuel economy, backfiring, starting problems and engine misfiring.
no...if the pump is indeed going bad then it will not be able to properly pump enough fuel to your cars engine..better have a professional look at it soon.
this car has self set hydrolic lifters.
Rocker arms dont break. Pushrods bend and lifters malfunction, but rocker arms rarely if ever go bad. A bad lifter will make an obnoxious taptaptap noise. A bent lifter will cause significant backfiring through the carb or fuel induction system.
