I'm an experianced cruise ship crew member. A refit is a maintenance period. Most ships have about one week every two years...but it varies. A "WETDOCK" is usually less than one week and involves routine maintenance. A "DRYDOCK" involves taking the ship out of water for at least a few days and involves heavy maintencance. Most of these are planned years in advance but sometimes have to be scheduled at short notice (an unscheduled "refit" means somehting is badly wrong!!).
