If you mean the ERG valve which relates to emission, I recommend having a mechanic do it, but the valve itself is not expensive about $50.00. I let this problem lag on and it blew a cap called a diverter valve that has something to do with vacuum, dont wait like I did.

The purge control valve is on backside of the throttle-body...it looks like a plastic inlet pipe that is missing tubing. There should be a small white/yellowish "cap" blocking the opening of the valve, just inside the inlet entrance. If it is turned-sideways (in constant open position) then you will have difficulty starting your car after filling-up at the pump. I have photos and will try to upload later....

The purge valve on the '96 626 is located on the passenger side of the engine. It bolts onto the intake manifold. There are 3 valves that make up this unit and all three are bolted on as one piece.
