There is three basic steps:
1. Look for a lot of yellow and red on the green skin.
2. Squezze the papaya gently; it should give a little if it is ripe.
3. Smell the fruit at the base where the stem was once attached; you should be able to smell a genuine papaya scent.
Ripe papayas are mostly yellow in color and slightly soft to the touch. Papayas that are mostly green with a bit of yellow color, and firm, will be ready to eat in a few days
