The Irish 5 Pence coin had a bull on the reverse and a harp on the obverse. The bull is from an old Irish legend and the harp has long been the national symbol of Ireland.

Is the Eire 20 Pence coin plated and with which metal I have a few Eire 20 Pence coins and some of them look like the plating has worn and they appear brown beneath?

The Eire (Irish) 20 Pence coin minted from 1986 to 2000, is made from a nickel/bronze alloy and are not plated. Any discolouration (browning or yellowing) will most likely be due to light tarnishing of the coin.

What is the value of an 1861 Eire 50 Pence coin?

Please check that date again. Ireland (Eire in Gaelic) did not use decimal denomination coins until 1970, and in any case, the country was under British rule in 1861 so a coin from that date would not have its inscriptions in Gaelic. Look at the coin again"Eire" is read while it is at the top of the coin. If you rotate the coin so that the numbers are at the top you will see that the date is actually "1981". The Irish (or Eire) 50 Pence coin was not introduced into the currency until 1970.

What do fake fifty pence coins look like?

If I were going to counterfeit coins, I would pick something easier and of greater value. The 50 Pence coin would be difficult to counterfeit because it is heptagonal for a start. Most counterfeit coins would pass at a glance as the real thing, but on closer inspection, there will be something not quite right about them. They might be a little lighter in weight, the edges, especially on a 50 Pence coin might be a little irregular, the images on the coin may be a little comic or a bit clumsy in appearance, the front and back of the coin might be out of alignment, the lettering may be skewed or inconsistent.

What does the valuable British 2 Pence look like?

Some British 1983 2 Pence coins were minted with the word "NEW" on them. The "NEW" had been dropped from the coins reverse design in 1982. These coins were only issued in some Royal Mint sets. The 1983 error or mule coin would look the same as all other 2 New Pence coins issued from 1971 to 1981, except with the year 1983.

What is the value of a British 5 Pence coin?

The larger pre-1991 5 Pence coins were withdrawn from circulation and demonetised in 1991. So, unless they are part of a Proof or Uncirculated mint set or are individual Proof or Uncirculated coins and in absolute mint condition, they have little or no value. The smaller (18 mm) coins from 1990 onwards are still potentially in circulation so, unless they are part of a Proof or Uncirculated mint set or are individual Proof or Uncirculated coins and in absolute mint condition, they are worth 5 Pence.
