Well, All i know is that..
Red blood cells are elastic and do not have any nucleus, so as to allow more hemoglobin to be packed in it. This is also to allow them to squeeze through the capillaries to supply tissue with oxygen.
Red blood cells also have a biconcave shape, to increase the surface area to volume ratio of the cell. And also, this also allows oxygen to diffuse in and out of the cell faster.
