Attendance refers to the people that "attended" a function. If you attended then you were in attendance. You were among the people that were there.

Attend has two primary meanings

1) to show up, to be present

- When a teacher calls attendance, she sees which students attend a class.

- If you attend a concert, it means you are there.

2) to deal with, or take care of

- A manager may have to work late to attend to important business.

- A doctor must attend to the needs of his patients.

The word attendant can have several meanings:

NOUN - an employee who provides assistance or service (hospital attendant, gas station attendant)

ADJECTIVE - being present at a meeting or gathering (from attending)

ADJECTIVE - consequent or concomitant (e.g. industry and its attendant environmental impact)
