Best Answer

Bayonet rule is rule under the threat of violence, usually using the presence of soldiers to deter rebellion or violent protest. China today is being accused of bayonet rule and the southern States in the USA were subjected to this treatment by the Republican presidents following the Civil War until the 1876 elections and the Compromise of 1877. Hope that helps.
