Democracy = Δημοκρατία = People's rule or in modern terms Power from the people for the people where every body participates in all levels of the state administration for one year once elected directly from the eligible citizens [age 21+ or 18+ currently]. In ancient Greece it was not accepted for anybody not to contribute to the community, city state and if such persons did exist were called idiots = ιδιώτης which was an insult.
