Short answer: Real Ecstasy tablets contain the drug MDMA (3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine). MDMA enters the brain and releases the brain chemical Serotonin in abnormally large amounts. Serotonin is a natural chemical found in every human brain and one of its many duties is to promote feelings of happiness. When someone takes MDMA the most common effects include: euphoria (extreme happiness), feelings of love and bonding with other people, enhanced pleasure from touch, increased levels of trust, increased appreciation of music, enhanced appreciation of light and color, increase in body temperature, reduction in appetite, and dehydration. Not everyone has the same reaction to MDMA. It is rare but some people do have negative reactions to the drug. Most everyone that take MDMA will experience a hangover or "crash" when the primary effects have worn off; this crash can be mild in some and powerful in others. MDMA is in a class of drugs called empathogens and entactogens (drugs which promote empathy and touch). It has properties of stimulants and also hallucinogens. Ecstasy tablets are commonly laced with other drugs which can have more negative and addictive properties.

Long Answer: A genuine tablet of Ecstasycontains the compound MDMA(3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) and also an inactive (inert) substance used to bind the pill into a shape and make it solid. MDMA is an Empathogen-Entactogen drug in the Phenethylamine family. This means it is a drug which promotes feelings of empathy, love and trust, enhances tactile sensation and it shares the same chemical skeleton as Phenethylamine. MDMA is related to Amphetamines and has stimulant and hallucinogenic properties as well, however it is unique from both pure stimulants and pure hallucinogens. The primary effects of Ecstasy include: euphoria, increased feelings of love and trust, increased appreciation of music, increased appreciation of sensory experience such as touch, light and sound, reduction of ego, increased willingness to communicate, decreased anxiety, feelings of forgiveness, analgesia, reduction of appetite, nystagmus, increased heart rate and blood pressure, increased body temperature, bruxism, insomnia and erectile dysfunction. MDMA creates these effects by crossing the blood-brain barrier and entering the Central Nervous System where it acts as a Serotonin Releasing Agent (SRA). MDMA also releases Dopamine and Norepinephrine (Noradrenaline) but to a lesser extent than Serotonin. MDMA acts on the monoamine transporters (SERT for Serotonin, DAT for Dopamine, and NET for Norepinephrine) responsible for moving these neurotransmitters in and out of cells. MDMA causes SERT, DAT, and NET to release Serotonin, Dopamine, and Norepinephrine into synapses in different parts of the brain, increasing concentrations of these chemicals to abnormally high levels.

it has chemicals and stuff in it that messes with your brain and makes you feel amazinng.

It temporarily alters the levels of Seratonin in your brain, which affect things mood sleep and hunger. Basically it brings your mood as high as possible, and your need for sleep way down. 2-3 months of abstinence from the drug returns these levels 100% to normal. That's pure MDMA however...

Since the gov't made it illegal for reasons yet to be found, criminals now manufacture the drug and other dangerous drugs find their way into your pills.

The Drug

Ecstasy, also known as MDMA, is often recognised as the original "designer drug" because of its links to dance music culture in the 1980's. Clubbers took ecstasy to feel awake and energised so they could dance for hours.

The Effects

Ecstasy affects the brain by force-changing the activity of at least three neurotransmitters. Serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. Ecstasy forces these neurotransmitters to be released from storage in neurons resulting in increased neurotransmitter activity. Ecstasy causes greater serotonin release and less dopamine release.

Serotonin is a transmitter that controls body functions such as moods, emotions, sleep, pain and appetite. The excessive release of serotonin causes the mood and emotional effects that ecstasy users feel.

Ecstasy users feel temporary feelings of love and affection for strangers and also experience intense colours and sound. They are also a lot more chattier, though the conversations don't always make sense.

The physical signs of someone on ecstasy include dilated pupils, tightening of the jaw muscles, raised body temperature and dangerously elevated heart-rate.

The Risks

"Clean" ecstasy is rare. Most ecstasy pills contain other ingredients. This is either so the dealer can save some of the drug, making more hence increasing profits, or because the dealer has malicious intentions. Some of the foreign ingredients found in ecstasy are: Dust, flour, lactose, baking soda, painkillers, talcum powder, ground chicken bones, asbestos, rat poison, cocaine and date rape drugs.

The comedown from ecstasy makes people feel very lethargic and depressed. Sometimes this can elevate to suicidal feelings.

Long-term users have recently been found to suffer from memory problems and may develop long-term depression and permanent anxiety. Ecstasy users also usually operate at a below-normal level of intellect.

Ecstasy also causes confusion in the brain, because the effects of the drug are not natural. This can lead to panic attacks, confusion episodes, paranoia and psychosis.

Because the effects of ecstasy are not natural and confuse the brain, the brain's neurotransmitters are taking physical damage as your body tries to fight the effects.

Your brain also tells your heart to beat faster, in order to pump more blood to the brain to help combat the effects of the drug. This can cause heart arrhythmias, permanent palpitations, damaged or split heart valves (leading to internal bleeding then death) and cardiac arrest (heart attack).

Ecstasy is also linked to kidney failures, as the kidney struggles to clean the effects of the drug from the users bloodstream. It's also linked to liver failure in the same way as Alcoholism.

Ecstasy is very dangerous to anyone with high blood pressure, heart conditions, epilepsy or Asthma.

Ecstasy can be used as a date rape drug. Because of the emotion and affection effects of the drug, it's particularly easy for a dealer to gain sexual advantage over someone on the drug. Ecstasy can also contain traces of date rape drugs such as Rhyphonol, to make the intended victim unconscious. Although Rhyphonol contains coloured dye (by law) so it's visible in drinks and food, it's usually unnoticeable in ecstasy pills because they usually come in a variety of colours.

Ecstasy damages the brains temperature controls while it's in the body. This leads to chances of overheating and dehydration. Which is particularly more dangerous in a hot nightclub. This can cause them to collapse. In a busy nightclub, a collapsed ecstasy user could be trampled on and crushed to death.

Ecstasy also damages the urine functions of the brain. While someone is on ecstasy it is usually impossible for them to pass urine. Drinking too much can increase the body's salt balance, which can be as deadly as not drinking any water for a week. This causes strain and damage to the kidneys and liver. Because urine cannot be passed, waste liquid builds up in the bladder, increasing pressure in the bladder which can cause permanent urinary problems for life. Too much liquid in the bladder can cause it to burst, the resulting urine poisoning your bloodstream.

The Law

Ecstasy is highly illegal. it's right up there with cocaine. Having ecstasy on your person or in your body will result in immediate arrest. Possession, even having just one pill in your pocket, can earn you seven years jail.

Selling ecstasy will also result in arrest and a long jail sentence. Usually up to fifteen years and an incredibly large fine. If forensic tests on the ecstasy show the pills contain other ingredients such as asbestos, cocaine, rat poison or date rape drugs, your sentence will be even higher.

If you are caught with ecstasy, the amount of jobs you can legally apply for are decreased massively. Ecstasy users are usually very poorly paid workers.

A serious drug record can also automatically ban you from accessing some countries, such as the United States, due to laws keeping international drug dealers out of their boarders. A non-American convicted ecstasy dealer who gets caught in the United States will face another jail sentence in an American jail.

Driving while there is ecstasy in your system carries heavier consequences than driving while drunk. Ecstasy can still be in your system for over 24 hours after taking the drug, affecting your driving ability until the traces are expelled from the body. Driving on class A drugs such as ecstasy result in immediate driving bans and a jail sentence. If you run someone over while on ecstasy, your sentence will be even higher.

Allowing a friend or someone else to take ecstasy in your house, car and so on, even if the ecstasy is not yours and even if you don't take the drug yourself, is highly illegal. The police can prosecute the owner for not preventing ecstasy entering their property.

As you may see, the negative effects far outweigh the positive effects of the drug.

You’re giving an answer you clearly know very little about.  The laws you quote don’t exist, and if they do, they change from state to state anyway.  Dummy.

žEcstasy increases the amount of serotonin that your body makes. Serotonin is a substance in your brain that controls your emotions. When people use ecstasy they tend to feel warm and fuzzy towards other people - that's why people sometimes call ecstasy the 'love drug'. i hope this is good enough.. i had to do this for my health assignment

Ecstasy

Ecstasy is almost always swallowed in 60 to 120 mg pills. It is usually a colored pill with a distinctive symbol on it; for example: blue dolphin, red nike, green goochie, yellow buddha, orange lady, etc. It is frequently snorted or taken in a liquid form through injection.

Ecstasy usually comes in pill form and is easily broken up, so it can also be crushed and put in a drink or crushed and broken down into a line and snorted. Anal ingestion is also possible, but rare. Also, there is something called molly, which is pure MDMA powder, which is usually snorted and may be administered orally, rectally, nasally, or intravenously.

Depending upon the recipe used to make the ecstasy, users can experience permanent damage to areas of the brain which determine thought patterns, memory and pleasure. Read this: http://www.essortment.com/lifestyle/drugalerteffec_skug.htm Notice however in that article phrases such as "drugs similar to" "may cause" etc. Many of the symptoms and effects listed in that link are from other drugs, and the article specifically says that theyre from the other drugs in common ecstasy pills. Something that is directly the fault of the DEA and United States gov't. Pure MDMA has none of those side effects or risks, however hard to find, PURE ECSTASY (MDMA) DOES NOTHING HARMFUL TO THE BODY. At least thus far nothing negative has been found thats accepted in the scientific community. The brain damage claim is completely false, when used in the "permanent" context. MDMA lowers the levels of seratonin in the brain, which after 2-3 months of abstinence return 100% to normal. It should also be noted that seratonin controlls things like mood and sleep, and has nothing to do with thought patterns.

Ecstasy works by releasing large amounts of serotonin from their synapses in the brain. This flood of serotonin causes extreme relaxation and euphoria. It also releases dopamine and blocks its reuptake. Much like crystal meth but it ecstasy is more potent of a serotonin drug. lastly there is talk that ecstasy releases oxytocin in the brain which has to do with love, trust, and bonding.
