It's the variable in an experiment that is being modified or altered. For example, if I compare two sunflowers to see which will last the longest and put one in the shade instead of the sun, that sunflower is the experimental variable because I altered it.

What conditions must be met if you want to have a scientifically valid sample for a study?

You must have a control group, an experimental group, an experimental variable (also called the independent variable), and a response to be measured (also called the dependent variable). The experimental variable is applied only to the experimental group, so that any difference between the control group and experimental group is due only to the experimental variable. Both the control group and experimental group must have the same conditions, except for the experimental variable.

What is the appropriate design of a controlled experiment?

You need a control group which does not receive the experimental variable, you need an experimental group which receives the experimental variable. You need an experimental variable, and you need to keep everything else the same.

What is a indepentent variable?

An independent variable is the experimental variable (what you are experimenting on)

What is the experimental variable?

What does mean level of the independent variable?

If an experiment compares an experimental treatment with a control treatment, then the independent variable (type of treatment) has two levels: experimental and control. If an experiment were comparing five types of diets, then the independent variable (type of diet) would have 5 levels. In general, the number of levels of an independent variable is the number of experimental conditions.

In an experiment the variable that is deliberately changed is called the?

The variable that is deliberately changed is called the experimental variable or the independent variable (they mean the same thing). When graphing, the independent variable goes on the x-axis.

What is the experimental variable and what is the dependent variable?

the experimental variable is like the independent variable, which is the only thing you can change in a science experiment, and the dependent variables are the things that stay the same.

What is the difference between the independent variable and the experimental variable?

the independent variable is changed, and the experimental value measure. So you control the independent variable and change it to measure the results

What is the difference between an experimental variable and a control variable?

In a controlled experiment, the control variable remains constant while the experimental variable changes with each trial of the experiment.

What does experimental variables mean?

the independent variable: independent of changes in the values of other variables

What is an experimental setup?

An experimental setup uses the independent variable.

Does the experimental group test the dependent variable?

The effect on the dependent variable will be different in the experimental group than the control group, which is why you measure the dependant variable.
