Genetically modified foods are just as the name suggests. Scientists alter the DNA make up of the food, often by taking DNA from an unrelated species and forcing it into the seeds of another species. Two of these items of food we see everyday in our stores are corn and soybeans.
The most common genetic modifications are made so that crops will withstand the use of pesticides and/or herbicides, or so plants actually produce their own pesticide within the plant itself.
It is often controversial.
Food that has been made from an animal that has been 'messed with' it's DNA has been changed , e.g a Milk gene has been placed into a cow with a Long living gene to produce a long living milk producing cow
From my reading, I have learned that in order to make genetically modified foods, scientists put the genes of bacteria into the genes of various plants such as cotton, corn, canola, and soy, and others. They modify the genes with bacteria in order to make the plant be able to withstand being doused with weed killer and yet not be negatively affected by the weed killer. Genetically modified food is different from natural selection where a farmer picks the best apples and propagates that strain. And it is different from taking two seeds and combining them in order to come up with a different variety.
GeneTically Modified Organisms, or Genetically Engineered foods are those agricultural products that have been genetically altered, not by hybridization or selective breeding, but by directly adding genetic code to its DNA, for specific benefits to the plant or animal without altering other beneficial genes.
The genetics of foods is altered through hybridization and genetic modification. When people speak of genetically altered food, they are usually referring to GMOs, which is genetic modification. To produce a GMO, a gene is most often removed from one organism and inserted into the seed of an unrelated organism in a lab. Unlike hybridization, which is done within a species (vertical breeding), genetic modification is between two different species and is called horizontal breeding.
The definition of functional food according to Webster's Dictionary is "a foodstuff (as a fortified food or a dietary supplement) that is held to provide health or medical benefits in addition to its basic nutritional value,"
To date (May 2015), almost all known foods that have been developed through genetic engineering are engineered to be herbicide resistant or to produce an insecticide within the plant itself. They are not known to have added health benefits or medicinal benefits. These crops are not considered to be functional foods according to the definition.
There is one known GMO food that could be a functional food. That is Golden Rice, which is genetically engineered to produce Vitamin A.
it means its genes are manipulated to produce desired quality food
The symbol 'gm' stands for Generically Modified.

There is a lot of talk about how genetically modified food is needed, but no real evidence that it is needed.
death. Nothing, food that hasn't been genetically modified is natural food. The kind of food people have been eating for thousands of years. Something is more likely to happen to you if you eat genetically modified food.
yes. but not true always this again depend upon how is this food modified genetealy
American McDonalds
