How does CRDI engines working?

CRDI is Common Rail Direct Injection Modern CR systems is governed by an engine control unit (ECU) which opens injector electronically rather than mechanically. CRDi is a modern variant of direct injection system for diesel engines. It features a high pressure (1000+ bar) fuel rails feeding individual solenoid valves as opposed to low pressure fuel pump feeding unit injectors or high pressure fuel line to mechanical valves controlled by cams on the camshaft. Common rail engines require no heating up time, and produce lower engine noise and lower emission than older systems. In common rail system the distributor injection pump is eliminated, instead an extremely high pressure pump stores a reservor of fuel at high pressure upto 2000bar in a common rail basically a tube which in turn branches off to computer controlled injector valves, each of which contains a precision machined nozzle and a plunger driven by a solenoid. driven by a computer, the valves, rather than pump timing, control the presice moment when the fuel is injected into the cylinder to be increased. As a result the fuel injected into the cylinder atomises easily and burns cleanly, reducing exhaust emissions and increasing efficiency.

Two of the most common causes of pump cavitation are air in the pump or the fluid being pumped is too hot. A common rail is nothing but a hollow shaft to which the fuel is delivered and maintained at a very high pressure of about 2000 bar.during the firing sequence of that particular cylinder, the high pressure electronically operated injector will be opened and fuel with a pressure of about 2000 bar is injected in to the cylinder. This high pressure fuel cloud will be automised completely and leads to complete combustion of the fuel, thus avoiding emission.
